Prop ‘n Go – Hybrid Lap Stand for iPad & Kindle with Adjustable Angle Control Review | Nook Covers And Cases

April 1st, 2012

Prop’n Go – Hybrid Lap Stand for iPad & Kindle with Adjustable Angle Control Review
I bought the Prop it up for both my iPad and my HP Tm2 tablet laptop. The Prop it up works really well for getting my tablet into a slanted position that’s actually high enough to get rid of the bad viewing angles of the TM2. I’ve been looking for a stand that could do this for some time and this fits the bill.

The stand is very well made. Like another review said, it looks handmade but it also looks very professionally made. The surface is made of a hard plastic that I found a bit to slippery. I spoke with the owner and he mentioned there were felt circles in the box to take care of this. I needed to little more modifying for my laptop to keep it steady, but other wise, for the iPad (with the felt in place) its perfect. I used the non slip carpet padding to keep my laptop from slipping off. If I was laying on the sofa and I leaned a little to much, my laptop would slide right off. That was the only mode I did to accomodate my laptop. Again for the iPad, whats included is all you need.
My laptop weighs close to five pounds and I found the prop it up could support its weight just find. There are real metal rollers that the really durable plastic fits between. As you prop it up you just move it to the next roller. I felt good about the rollers being metal and the plastic is very strong and supports my laptop and ipad with ease.

nook tablet
The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because of the materials. The Prop it up is made of thick foam and covered with a black vinyl. While that in itself isn’t my issue, its that while its on my lap it really starts to get warm. Maybe in future versions a more breathable fabric could be used. As it is now, I bought a cheap plastic cutting board to slide between it and my lap. Yes, my lap was getting that warm. In the winter that could be a nice bonus, but in summer, its a tad warm at times.
The padding again is very thick, that means this is very protective for your iPad. It has a nice handle and that makes it quite portable for car trips providing you aren’t the one driving.
As for my laptop, I find it very comfortable to type on now. I have all these great adjustments and every angle I could want. I can prop my laptop up in tablet mode and draw or paint and its great. Just what I had been looking for.
So yes, its a little pricey, but if you need this for a tablet pc or an iPad, I think its worth the money.

10 Reasons Why the Nook is Better Than the Kindle – Battle of the eBook Readers

March 20th, 2012

I have to admit, I shop a lot from Amazon.com. So much to say that I consider myself an Amazolic. I think it is because I believe that they have the best collection of DVDs, clothes, gadgets, electronics, books, and just about everything else that one would want to shop online for. However, I got a little flimsy about Amazon after the homepage turned into a one item promotion page for their eBook eReader, The Kindle. It is almost as if they are playing some kind mind-trick on their visitors. Make them see the Kindle enough times that a percentage of people who visit Amazon.com end up psychologically convincing themselves to give in and buy the eBook Reader.

That is when I saw an article on Kindle getting a new competitor in the eBook Reader market, the Barnes and Noble Nook. As if on auto-pilot, I found myself on BarnesandNoble.com and was pleasantly surprised to see that the homepage was not plastered with a huge posting on an eBook Reader. In fact, there was a small 2×2 inch ad reading, “Nook, The World’s Most Advanced eBook Reader: Learn More” on the right of the page. And that was it! No mind games, no tricks, just a simple, genuine ad that definitely caught my eye.

The early pre-orders are expected to be delivered by mid-December, which is a slight delay as Barnes and Noble admitted to be getting a high demand for their eReaders. If you still have not placed your order, no need to worry, you will get your new eBook Reader in early January.

Here are 10 reasons why the Nook triumphs over the Kindle:

  1. Goes easy on the eyes.

There is no glare or backlight that some complained about the Kindle, and with the adjustable text size, you can read on for hours without the discomfort of your eyes being tired out.

  2. Sample eBooks for free.

You can download a free sample of any eBook from the store and not only discover new authors but also check out the most talked about books for free on your Barnes and Noble eBook Reader. The Kindle does not offer this convenience.

  3. Mark up your pages and Reading Now.

Nook makes it simple and easy to bookmark, highlight passages, or even make notes, with a built in tool, which also allows you to look up the meaning of any word mid-sentence, using the built-in dictionary.

  4. Size, Display and Specifications.

    • Compact Size – The Nook is about the same size and weight as an average sized paperback book.
    • Expandable Storage – With 2GB built-in memory, the Nook can store about 1,500 eBooks. However with a microSD memory card slot, this number is pushed up to 17,500 eBooks.
    • Paper-like Display – The most advanced E-ink Vizplex electronic paper display that reads like the printed page and you can read an eBook in bright sunlight as clearly as inside your home
    • Color Touchscreen – 3.5 inch color touchscreen LCD that offers one-touch control and navigation. The Kindle has a gray-scale display.
    • Fast and Free Wireless – Fast and Free wireless from Barnes & Noble via AT&T, the nation’s fastest 3G network.
    • Supported File Types – Very flexible options that include EPUB and eReader Formats, PDFs, MP3s and graphics that load to your Nook from your computer or micro SD card and JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP files are used to create personal screen savers.
    • Personalized Screen Saver – Customize your nook quickly and easily by loading your own photos or using the many default pictures.
    • Powerful Battery – You can read for up to ten days without recharging (with wireless off). Charging is done via USB to computer system or power adapter.
  5. Cost-efficient

At just $260, the Barnes and Noble Nook Ebook Reader is the same price as Amazon’s Kindle 2, but you get so much more for your money. You get Wi-Fi, an SD slot, native PDF support and that extra double screen makes it seem eons out of the Kindle’s league.

  6. Easy to Lend and Share Your eBooks with Friends and Family.

One of the main objections that users of the Kindle and other older eReaders have is that people prefer to to get the majority of their eBooks from their friends or family, rather than buying them from bookstores, which all these previous eReaders do not really have much flexibility with. The Nook realizes that people do like to share their eBooks and allows for a 2-week lending period – plenty of time to read a book. Also, you can lend a book from your Nook to tons of different devices: Mac, PC, iPhone, iPod Touch, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, or Windows Mobile (soon).

  7. Double Screen.

With the traditional single screen that is seen in all the eBook eReaders prior to the Barnes and Noble Nook eBook eReader, browsing for books was a workout on its own and often a frustration. But with its capacitive double touchscreen, the Nook offers a keyboard and Cover-Flow-esque browsing that takes away the awkwardness and lethargy of e-ink, and more importantly, it opens the door for multitasking. You will be able to read a book and control your music at the same time, and since the music browser will be on the LCD screen, it will not look like some e-inked crap. It will also support photo browsing and the ability to set your own wallpaper.

  8. Battery Life.

The Barnes and Noble Nook eBook Reader comes with a 10-day battery life, which might not be just as long as the Kindle 2′s 14 days, but with all the extra features it comes along with, you have to admit, 10 days is still more than enough time to read a book.

  9. Android Integration – Leads to Endless Possibilities.

B&N seem to be open to apps being introduced to the Nook, which will take your user experience to a whole new level when compared to the Kindle and other existing eReaders. Picture this: Your iPod merged with an eBook reader – that is exactly what the Nook eReader will feel like.

  10. Largest eBook Collection.

With over 1 million titles to choose from, the eBooks will be available through the Barnes and Noble eBookStore and will delivered through the 3G wireless network. Thousands of older titles are free, and many new releases are as low as $9.99.

I should also mention that the accessories for the Nook are looking hot as you have the option of personalising your Nook with rubberized plastic covers, leather cases with button straps, and artistic sleeve covers are just some of the looks you can use to brand your Nook as truly yours.

I am very interested in the Nook eReader as I do a lot of reading and to be honest, how cool would it be to be doing some bedtime reading with a light-weight Nook, not having to switch arms because you are getting tired of holding a traditional, heavy book.

For me, the Barnes and Noble Nook wins the battle with The Kindle by a landslide. The new features are of course noteworthy, but what stands out to me is that this is not another iPhone-esque product. Once everyone starts getting something and all your friends are going around with Kindles in their pockets, I feel better knowing I have something different and The Nook seems perfect to do just that.

If you are considering an eReader for yourself or as a gift for someone, you should definitely consider the Nook for a more personal, advanced and genuine touch. Need more information on the Barnes & Noble Nook eReader and where to buy?

Oberon designs Revisited

February 13th, 2012

Hi there

Oberon

Thought I would come back to favourite of mine Oberon Designs. Brendon Smiths company makes some of the best designs you can buy for the nook and other devices.

I am going to embed a video in which  Brendon takes you through some of the design benefits of their leather cases.

Brendons comany Oberon has been making truely beautiful design cases for E readers and other gadgets for many years. They have built up a great reputation for quality and the trademark Celtic images that literally come out of the cover in 3d solid impression.

Tasume in Carbon

Going to the other end of the scale Tasume is an all together more modern affair. The Tasume’s exterior is designed with an embossed geometric pattern and  has some unexpected functionality in the bag. If you fold back the outer flaps, you’ll discover a molded window, lined in black neoprene, custom-tailored for your Nook Color or Nook Tablet. Magnets secure the flaps to the back cover for comfortable reading.

nook coversnook covers

The channels in each flap allow you to fold it into a pyramid, and magnets join the two small pyramids into a larger pyramid — providing a sturdy base for hands-free reading, in either portrait or landscape mode.

There are convenient openings for the headphone jack and charging port, the built-in volume buttons on the right side of the device window, and a perforated sound port on the back to enhance your device’s speaker output.

Everybody’s selling everything off!

January 24th, 2012

Retail upheaval

HMV, Waterstones Barnes and Noble. Whether you are east

or west of the Atlantic these are big ticket companies

who ten years ago were behemoths of their respective sectors.

HMV Bought out Waterstones in the late 90’s and now in

2011 have sold the company off. Barnes and Noble are now

considering spinning off the Nook Business so that it can find its feet and true value.

The nook saw a 70% increase in sales last year the Barnes and Noble traditional book stores

did not find the same joy. Waterstones sold by HMV is looking for a boost and

the Nook might just be what they are looking for.

nook tablet

It would not be hard to imagine Waterstones being
tempted by a new technology that has a tried and tested development and is already
competing well with the main competition; the Kindle. On top of the 70%
increase in Hardware the content of e-book sales increased 113% in the same
time period.

So for the UK and Europe it is possible that Nook might
come to town in 2012. For Waterstones it might be a boost, For HMV it might be
a trickier situation to deal with. For Barnes and Noble it could be the first
step to becoming a global rather than US only competitor.

Case Review 2011

nook covers

Nook covers and cases are all about durability and protection are great reasons for buying a case for your Nook or Kindle. Another factor is also definitely style. And so to some of the best as yearend review for 2011 Some to the cases we have reviewed are almost items of art. Pad and Quill, Oberon and Dodo stand out in this field. Here are a few that we particularly like   Dodo use traditional book binding methods to create beautiful covers that as well as protecting that asset, stand out as a quality accessory that gives your e-reader a handmade feel.

Same can be said for Pad and quill who really take quality seriously. Use of Leather and wonderful designs give you something to keep as long as the reader and are covers that you would be pleased to show friends and others alike

Pad & Quill, a newproduct launch and a sniff of an International Expansion… Where do you start?

November 12th, 2011

I’ll tell you where

Pad and Quill.

This is a pretty unique site showing the work of Brain and Kari. It details their quest to make truly exceptional covers & cases for all manner of e-Book and tablets

It is great for enookcoversandcases.com to be able to share this detail with you They describe their start from an “economic shipwreck” and how they moved with the times and the rising tide of apples technology. Two factors of technology rapidly consuming tradition and the reduction of the use of artisan craftsmen; meant that crafts were seen to be plasticised and shipped abroad. This then was the motivator for P & Q

P & Q is a true return to older values and the cases you can get for them are unusual in a day of mass production and mass marketing.

The P & Q approach to making these cases is taken from traditional methodology of Bindery. Using Baltic birch that is designed to make a perfect tension, the cases are made to a satin finish. Italian bonded leather is used for a final cover and the cases are shaped by weights and traditional bindery methods. A time tested approach to create a beautiful end result.

Barnes & Noble: Launch Nook in UK Canada and Europe???

nook covers

Living near London and having written about these little E-readers for some time I was astounded and pleased to read that B & N are coming to town. William Lynch has commented that they expect to make an announcement sometime in the next quarter. Seeing he is CEO of Barnes and Noble,we will choose to believe him and keep you all informed of developments as they go.. In a market dominated by Amazon it never hurts to have competition. From Barnes and Nobles point of view they are looking to sell to several hundred million more people… Can’t work out why they didn’t pick on that fact before really…? And finally…

Nook Tablet Launch update

nook covers

There is less than a week to go before the Nook Tablet hits the streets…
enookcoversandcases.com understands that the new Tablet runs on Wi-Fi, has a 7 ” display , a buitl in micorphone, web browsing, email ability, and can play HD moveis for fun.
An interesting development is Nook Newsstands that allows users to subscribe to magazines and periodicals. The Nook Talet comes with a 16GB memmory, twice that of the Kindle Fire. The users can add up to 32GB by utilising an SD Card
Launched by CEO William Lynch last week the Nooks ability in HD Film drew some comment
Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings said that HD movies look better on the Nook
“Judge for yourself” he said, but we think the content will look and render better on the Nook than on the Kindle.
All sounds good from where the writer is sitting!
